What To Avoid With A Fresh Tattoo
Avoiding certain practices during the healing process is crucial for the proper aftercare of a tattoo. Here are some tattoo aftercare “don’ts”:
Don’t Pick or Scratch:
Refrain from picking, scratching, or peeling the tattooed area. This can lead to scarring, pigment loss, and infection.
Avoid Sun Exposure:
Steer clear of prolonged sun exposure and tanning beds. UV rays can fade the tattoo and increase the risk of complications during the healing period.
Don’t Submerge in Water:
Avoid submerging the tattoo in bodies of water such as pools, hot tubs, or baths. Prolonged exposure to water can delay healing and increase the risk of infection.
No Soaking in Saunas or Steam Rooms:
Steer clear of saunas, steam rooms, and excessive sweating, as these can also hinder the healing process and introduce bacteria to the tattoo.
Avoid Tight Clothing:
Refrain from wearing tight or abrasive clothing over the fresh tattoo. Allow the tattoo to breathe and avoid unnecessary friction.
Don’t Apply Excessive Ointment:
Apply only the recommended amount of tattoo ointment or moisturizer. Overusing these products can suffocate the tattoo and impede the healing process.
Avoid Gym Activities:
Postpone vigorous physical activities, especially those that involve rubbing or excessive movement of the tattooed area, to prevent irritation.
Don’t Let Others Touch:
Resist the urge to let others touch your healing tattoo, as their hands may carry bacteria. Only touch the tattoo with clean hands when necessary.
Avoid Petroleum-Based Products:
Steer clear of petroleum-based products, like Vaseline, as they can hinder the healing process and cause ink migration. Please only use Social Ink Aftercare.
Don’t Rebandage:
Once your tattoo is exposed to air, do not rebandage it. Let it breathe to promote proper healing.
